Experiment: Typhoon

Our Interesting Lessons

Experiment: Typhoon

P.5 students had the opportunity to learn how typhoons are created in a safe environment, using a bottle of water, an empty bottle and some sticky tape. In this simple experiment, every student had the opportunity to spin the bottles to create a typhoon in the water inside. The students really enjoyed watching the science of nature at work and learning how it affects our weather.

Experiment - Typhoon

'Turn the bottle.' 'Watch the typhoon!' 'Spin the bottle.'
'Wow! It’s amazing!' 'Hold the bottle tight.' 'Such a simple experiment.'
'So much fun!' 'The water moves so quickly.' 'There’s a cyclone in a bottle.'
'Look carefully.' 'It’s spinning so clearly.' 'Yeah!'
'Everybody say ‘Typhoon!’' 'How is this happening?' 'Spinning helps high pressure and low pressure to balance.'
'I made my own typhoon.' 'The full bottle has high pressure.' 'The empty bottle has low pressure.'
