P.5 Science Activity - Lava Lamps

The P.5 classes had a lesson on scientific experiments in which they made ‘lava lamps’. It was fun and educational for students to learn about making a hypothesis, following procedures and to understand more about the densities of liquids and gasses.

Add food colouring to water.	Drop an effervescent tablet into the bottle.
Add the coloured water to the oil.	Water is denser than oil and sinks to the bottom.
“Look at the coloured blobs moving.”	“Oh no! It’s overflowing!”
The tablet makes it bubble.	“It’s so cool!”
