P.5 Science Activity - Typhoon in a Bottle

The P.5 classes had a lesson on scientific experiments in which they made a ‘Typhoon in a Bottle’. It was fun and educational for students to learn about extreme weather and how tornadoes and typhoons are formed.

Warm air is light and wants to move up. Cold air is heavy and wants to move down.
The water is heavier, like cold air. Pressure builds up, like a storm, as the heavy water wants to move down.
Spinning the bottle makes the water and air twist past each other. The spinning makes it easier for the water to move down and the air to move up.
A tornado or a typhoon is formed inside the bottle. A great experiment to learn about air pressure and weather.
